Day-by-day estate-visit plans for Burgenland: weekend, first-timer and deep-cellar editions.
Day-by-day plans
3-Day Neusiedlersee Wine Weekend: Rust, Gols, and Podersdorf ★ 4.4
Day 1
Morning
Arrive in Rust, the free city bought with wine in 1681. Walk the old town's stork-nest rooftops and visit a family cellar such as Schandl, growing wine here since 1741.
Afternoon
Tour the Ruster Ausbruch story at a family cellar, tasting a mature botrytis-affected Ausbruch alongside its dry counterpart.
Evening
Sunset walk along the Rust lakeshore reed beds before dinner in the old town.
Day 2
Morning
Drive 20 minutes to Gols. Visit the Weinkulturhaus tasting hall on Hauptplatz for an orientation flight across roughly 100 Gols winemakers before individual cellar visits.
Afternoon
Visit one or two Pannobile-member cellars (such as Heinrich, Pittnauer, Beck, Gsellmann, Nittnaus or Leitner) for an appointment tasting of their single-vineyard reds.
Evening
Cycle or drive the WeinWeg vineyard trail above Gols for views over the lake basin at golden hour.
Day 3
Morning
Drive to Podersdorf am See on the lake's open shore for a walk along the reed-fringed beach promenade.
Afternoon
Optional visit to a Seewinkel botrytis specialist near Illmitz if travelling in the autumn Ausbruch/TBA season; otherwise a relaxed cycle along the lake's cycle path.
Evening
Depart via Neusiedl am See train station back to Vienna, or continue south toward Eisenstadt.
2-Day Mittelburgenland Blaufränkisch Trail ★ 4.0
Day 1
Morning
Drive south from Eisenstadt into Mittelburgenland, arriving in Deutschkreutz, one of the appellation's anchor villages.
Afternoon
Visit a Deutschkreutz-area cellar for a vertical tasting comparing Klassik, Reserve and single-Ried Blaufränkisch bottlings.
Evening
Evening walk through the village's wine-cellar row (Kellergasse) as the light fades over the vineyards.
Day 2
Morning
Continue to a neighbouring Mittelburgenland village for a second cellar visit, comparing soil and style differences within the DAC.
Afternoon
Return north toward Eisenstadt, stopping at a roadside Kellergasse for a final tasting if any cellar is open.
Evening
Arrive back in Eisenstadt for the evening.
Ausbruch and Botrytis Weekend: Rust and the Seewinkel ★ 4.2
Day 1
Morning
Arrive in Rust and visit the Ruster Ausbruch heritage displays before a family-cellar tasting comparing a young and a decade-aged Ausbruch.
Afternoon
Second Rust cellar visit focused specifically on Trockenbeerenauslese and Beerenauslese, if the harvest calendar allows.
Evening
Evening stroll along the Rust lakeshore reed beds.
Day 2
Morning
Drive to the Seewinkel around Illmitz, the fog-and-sun botrytis zone that built the modern reputation of Burgenland sweet wine.
Afternoon
Visit a Seewinkel cellar for a barrel-sample taste of the current vintage's botrytis lots if visiting during the October-December picking window.
Evening
Return north via Podersdorf for a last lakeside view before departure.
