Biodynamic PracticingCCPAEPacs del Penedes
The Cusine-Carol family farms the Pacs del Penedes estate organically and uses biodynamic methods including a horse-and-livestock farmyard, lunar calendar work and on-site preparation of biodynamic compost. The estate is certified organic by CCPAE. Biodynamic practice is documented on the producer website but Demeter or Biodyvin certification has not been confirmed for the Pares Balta home estate as of this research.
Tip: The Pares Balta visitor walk includes the farmyard livestock that are part of the biodynamic system; ask the host to show the compost preparation area.
Demeter CertifiedCCPAESant Sadurni d'Anoia
Recaredo farms its Sant Sadurni vineyards organically (CCPAE certified) and biodynamically (Demeter certified) on 50 hectares of estate vineyards. The producer's Turo d'en Mota single-vineyard Brut Nature Gran Reserva is produced from Demeter-certified Xarel-lo. Recaredo is a founding member of the Corpinnat producer association.
Tip: Recaredo's hand-disgorgement programme is one of the last at industrial scale; reserve the visit slot that includes the disgorgement demonstration.
Demeter CertifiedCCPAEVilobi del Penedes
Loxarel is a four-generation family producer at Masia Can Mayol in Vilobi del Penedes, certified organic by CCPAE and biodynamic by Demeter. The estate vinifies in concrete eggs, terracotta amphorae and large oak with no temperature control. The 109 Xarel-lo amphora bottling and the A Pel Xarel-lo Vermell are the signature releases.
Tip: Loxarel's amphora room is the highlight of the visit; the 109 amphora-aged Xarel-lo is the signature amphora bottling.
Biodynamic PracticingCCPAEAvinyonet del Penedes
Mas Candi is a small organic Corpinnat producer at Avinyonet del Penedes, certified organic by CCPAE and practising biodynamic methods on the home vineyards. The Cova Foradada Sumoll and Desig Xarel-lo are the signature still-wine bottlings. Demeter certification has not been confirmed on the Mas Candi home vineyards.
Tip: Mas Candi runs a small visitor programme; ask in advance whether the cellar visit is available, as the team is sometimes in the field.
CCPAESant Pau d'Ordal
Albet i Noya farms the home Can Vendrell vineyard at Sant Pau d'Ordal organically. The estate sold the first 100 percent organic Spanish wine (a Tempranillo) in 1979 and was CCPAE-certified in 1982. The range runs from the Petit Albet entry-tier to the Reserva 3 Cabernet Sauvignon and El Fanio Xarel-lo.
Tip: Albet i Noya's vintage records since 1978 are kept in the visitor centre; the historic timeline is part of the cellar tour.
Demeter CertifiedCCPAESant Sadurni d'Anoia
Gramona is a founding Corpinnat producer with organic-certified estate vineyards (CCPAE) and Demeter biodynamic certification on the home vineyards. The Imperial Brut, La Cuvee Brut and Celler Batlle long-ageing bottlings are the signature releases. Demeter Spain lists Gramona as a certified producer.
Tip: Gramona's Enoteca historic releases are very limited; ask whether any vertical is available at the tasting room.
