La Mirande is Avignon's most romantic hotel, a 14th-century cardinal's palace adjacent to the Palais des Papes, restored to period grandeur. Its candlelit bar pours rare Chateauneuf-du-Pape verticals and old-vintage Hermitage by the glass in one of the most atmospheric settings in southern France. Non-residents are welcome at the bar.
