Montefalco historic center
AMontefalco is the Montefalco wine consortium's spring preview of the new Sagrantino and Montefalco-area vintages, three late-April days of vertical and cross-sectional tastings and themed seminars for international press and trade.
Pours: Montefalco Sagrantino DOCG, Montefalco Rosso DOC, Spoleto DOC
Tip: This edition is built for press and trade accreditation rather than walk-in visitors; Enologica Montefalco in September is the public-facing counterpart.
Cantine Aperte opens Umbria's Movimento Turismo del Vino member wineries for one weekend at the end of May, part of a national format the movement has run every year since 1993. Visitors walk cellars, taste current releases and buy direct from the producer.
Pours: Sagrantino di Montefalco DOCG, Torgiano Rosso Riserva DOCG, Orvieto DOC, Colli del Trasimeno DOC
Tip: The national format draws over a million visitors across Italy each year, so book ahead at the region's better-known Montefalco and Torgiano estates.
Calici di Stelle pairs evening wine tastings with stargazing in Umbria's medieval hill towns every August, part of Movimento Turismo del Vino's national summer calendar. Member wineries pour by the glass in illuminated historic centers.
Pours: Sagrantino di Montefalco DOCG, Orvieto DOC, Torgiano Rosso Riserva DOCG
Tip: Pours happen in town piazzas as well as at the wineries themselves, so check each stop's own program before setting an evening route.
Cantine Aperte in Vendemmia runs from late August through late October across nine Umbrian towns, with hand-harvesting, grape treading, cellar tours and vineyard meals hosted by Movimento Turismo del Vino member wineries during the harvest.
Pours: Sagrantino di Montefalco DOCG, Grechetto, Trebbiano Spoletino
Tip: Grape-treading and harvest-lunch slots are the paid components; general cellar visits are usually open access, but confirm per winery.
Cantine Aperte a San Martino spreads over two autumn weekends at Movimento Turismo del Vino Umbria member wineries, pairing new-vintage tastings with the seasonal shift into cooler weather around the traditional Saint Martin's wine calendar.
Pours: Sagrantino di Montefalco DOCG, Montefalco Rosso DOC, Torgiano Rosso Riserva DOCG
Tip: Later autumn dates than the harvest edition, so expect finished new-vintage whites and rosati alongside barrel samples of the current reds.
