Collio, Colli Orientali, Isonzo and Carso
Cantine Aperte is the national open-cellar Sunday organised by Movimento Turismo del Vino on the last Sunday of May. The Friuli chapter activates more than 100 producers across Collio, Colli Orientali, Isonzo and Carso, with most cellars open from 10:00 to 18:00 without booking and a producer-by-producer map on the MTV FVG portal. The day is the busiest single visitor day of the Friuli wine year.
Tip: Cantine Aperte Sunday runs without booking but the marquee Oslavia cellars cap visitor numbers; arrive at Gravner or Radikon before 11:00 for the best chance to taste.
Piazza XXIV Maggio, Cormons (plus Cividale, Buttrio)
Calici di Stelle is the national wine-tasting evening on August 10, the Feast of Saint Lawrence and the traditional star-shower night, organised by Citta del Vino and Movimento Turismo del Vino.
Tip: The Cormons tasting bracelet is bought on the night from the town hall stand on Piazza XXIV Maggio; the Enoteca Comunale pours the full Collio member roster across the evening.
Tarvisio and Malborghetto, Valcanale
Ein Prosit is the international wine and food event held across Tarvisio and Malborghetto in the Valcanale (the Friulian-Carinthian-Slovenian three-borders area) in early November.
Tip: Ein Prosit masterclass tickets sell out 6 to 8 weeks in advance; book the headline-vintage Friuli masterclasses on the Ein Prosit portal as soon as the programme drops in early September.
Buttrio, Udine
The Mostra dei Vini di Buttrio is the historic Colli Orientali wine fair held in Buttrio in late May and early June, running across the Republic Day long weekend (June 2 in Italy).
Tip: The Buttrio Mostra often overlaps with the Republic Day public holiday on June 2; book Cividale or Udine accommodation early since the long weekend fills regional hotels.
Cormons and the Collio cellars
Jazz & Wine of Peace runs in late October across Cormons and the Collio cellars, with daytime concerts in the cellar visitor spaces (Schiopetto, Venica & Venica, Borgo del Tiglio) and evening shows at the Cormons town hall and the Teatro Comunale. The festival pairs the harvest-finished cellar visit programme with an established Italian jazz line-up outside the major cities.
Tip: The cellar daytime concerts are limited capacity and require booking with the cellar visit; combine the festival pass with one cellar visit per day.
Trieste Piazza Unita d'Italia and Molo Audace
Barcolana is the regatta held on the Gulf of Trieste on the second Sunday of October, organised by the Societa Velica di Barcola e Grignano since 1969 and ranked as a major international sailing event by participating boats. The associated nine-day waterfront programme on Piazza Unita d'Italia and Molo Audace features Carso producer stands (Kante, Vodopivec, Skerk, Zidarich) and Trieste's Mitteleuropean coffee and buffet kiosks.
Tip: The Carso producer stands run in parallel with the Barcolana regatta on the second Sunday of October; arrive on the Saturday for the producer pours before the race-day crowd.
