Wagram DAC: Roter Veltliner and Bernhard Ott
The Wagram is a plateau appellation overlooking the Danube to the west of Vienna, best known for its loess-rich soils and as the home of Bernhard Ott, whose Wagram Gruner Veltliner is a benchmark for the appellation. The region also grows Roter Veltliner, a distinct pink-skinned variety producing full-bodied whites with almond and herb notes, largely unique to this corner of Lower Austria. A contrast to the granite-and-gneiss terroir of the Wachau.
