Penafiel

The visitor centre of Bodegas Protos in Penafiel presents the winery's history from its 1927 cooperative origins alongside the story of the Richard Rogers building (inaugurated 2008). Tour of the 14th-century underground aging cellars beneath Penafiel Castle forms the heritage core; the new Rogers building contextualises the architectural evolution of the cooperative. Sardon de Duero

The 12th-century Augustinian abbey of Abadia Retuerta in Sardon de Duero presents 900 years of winemaking history from its monastic origins through the modern high-end estate. Heritage interpretation is embedded in the cellar visit programme; the abbey's original Romanesque architecture, wine press room and experimental barrel hall form a living heritage museum. The estate operates outside the DO Ribera del Duero designation as a pago-classified producer.
