Mantry grower working 8 hectares across four communes and three geographic appellations, Cotes du Jura, L'Etoile and Chateau-Chalon, with 16th-century cellars under the house.

Tasting: Groups up to 50 by reservation; 5 euros per person for five wines with amuse-bouches, glass included. Bus parking beside the cellar.

Tip: One of the few small domaines holding vines in three separate geographic AOCs, which makes the tasting a tour of the region.

Passenans family domaine recorded since 1692 and run by Nathalie and Emmanuel Grand, with 10 hectares on clay-limestone and irised marl farmed organically.

Tasting: Caveau by appointment daily except Sunday, and closed weekends from September to April; visit takes in the old and modern cellars and a small winemaking museum.

Tip: The street is literally called rue du Savagnin, and the estate holds Chateau-Chalon parcels as well as Cotes du Jura.

Vins Bonnot ★ 3.8

Cotes du Jura AOC

Negociant house at Saint-Lothain that vinifies a large part of its Jura whites itself and ages the reds in its own cellars, with direct sale on site.

Tip: Saint-Lothain sits between Poligny and the Sud Revermont, an easy stop on the vineyard road.

CFPPA de Montmorot ★ 3.6

Cotes du Jura AOC

Training centre of the Montmorot agricultural campus outside Lons-le-Saunier, listed by the Comite Interprofessionnel des Vins du Jura among the region's training bodies.

Tip: This is professional training for growers and career changers rather than a visitor tasting class.

Domaine Jean-Luc Mouillard ★ 4.3

Savagnin, Chardonnay, Poulsard, Trousseau, Pinot NoirCotes du Jura AOC

A grower at Mantry working the full Jura range, Chateau-Chalon and vin de paille included, alongside Cremant and Macvin. The cellar sells direct and the domaine is farmed organically.

Why locals love it: Mantry sits off the vineyard road between Poligny and Lons-le-Saunier, so almost nobody passes it by accident, and the cellar takes visitors by arrangement rather than keeping caveau hours.

Tip: Open every day except Sunday, but by appointment, and the domaine asks you to phone 03 84 25 94 30 first. It is twenty minutes from Chateau-Chalon, so pair it with the Haute-Seille rather than with Arbois.

Domaine Grand ★ 4.6

Biodynamic PracticingORGANIC CERTIFIEDCotes du Jura AOC

Nathalie and Emmanuel Grand at Passenans state that all their wines come from organic agriculture and show the AB and Eurofeuille marks, across Cremant, ouille whites, sous voile whites, vin jaune and Chateau-Chalon.

Tip: Cellar visits are by appointment on 03 84 85 28 88. Passenans is between Poligny and the Haute-Seille, so book it as the pivot of a day that ends at Voiteur.
