Biodynamic PracticingECOCERTNaturalTondela
Twenty-five hectares of scattered granite parcels at Mouraz, certified by Ecocert since 1996, working with biodynamic preparations since 2006 and a member of La Renaissance des Appellations since 2009.
Tip: Vinifications are done parcel by parcel from interplanted old vines, so the range reads as a map of Mouraz rather than a set of varietals.
ORGANIC CERTIFIEDSerra da Estrela
A family project started in 2018 on the Serra da Estrela slopes that farms 22 hectares organically across seven parcels at Vila Nova de Tazem and Penalva do Castelo, with a wine shop attached.
Tip: The Pretexto range at 14.50 euros is the cheapest organically farmed Dão bottle on the estate's own list.
ORGANIC CERTIFIEDTerras de Azurara
Twenty hectares of traditional Dão grapes at Quinta do Cruzeiro in Mangualde, worked without synthetic chemicals on granite at altitude, with an organic range of whites, rosés, reds and sparkling.
Tip: The estate opens daily, 10:00 to 12:00 and 14:00 to 17:00, and pairs the tasting with bread and its own olive oil.
ORGANIC CERTIFIEDSantar
Global Wines farms the vineyard inside the Paço dos Cunhas walls in modo biológico, including the Vinha do Contador, on a property raised in 1609 at 400 metres.
Tip: Clos de Santar comes off the vineyard enclosed by the estate's own granite walls; ask to walk it rather than only taste it.
ORGANIC CERTIFIEDSilgueiros
A small organically farmed vineyard at 365 metres above the Dão river in Silgueiros, bottling numbered and hand-sealed reds from Alfrocheiro, Touriga Nacional, Tinta Roriz and Jaen.
Tip: The visit is a vineyard and cellar walk with three wines, and the bottles can be bought at the quinta afterwards.
