Aroma: violet, ripe raspberry, crushed stone, blue fruit

Palate: blackberry, iron, graphite, spice

Volcanic Gamay from the granite and blue syenite of Mont Brouilly: deep blue-fruit core, stony minerality, firm tannin and long finish.

What it pairs with

  • Poulet de Bresse rôti
The wine's iron-mineral spine cuts richly through roasted poultry.
  • Côte de boeuf grillée
Firm tannins and dark-fruit concentration match grilled beef.
  • Époisses de Bourgogne
Washed-rind cheese fat softens the wine's volcanic grip.

History

Named after Zaccharie Geoffray, patriarch of the Geoffray family who have farmed Mont Brouilly since 1877. The cuvée was created to express the estate's oldest parcels on the volcanic blue syenite soils of the Côte de Brouilly hill.

  1. 1877 — Geoffray family establishes Château Thivin on Mont Brouilly
  2. 1993 — Cuvée Zaccharie first released as a parcel-selection from oldest vines
