Peter Dipoli's Sauvignon Blanc from 3 hectares of terraced slopes in Penon (Cortaccia) at 500-600 metres on sandy dolomitic-limestone soils. First vintage 1990; ten-day fermentation in large acacia barrels and ageing on lees until May.

What it pairs with

  • Grilled Mediterranean white fish
Voglar's full body and saline minerality match firm Mediterranean fish; the wine's lees-driven texture suits rich fish dishes.
  • Asparagus with hollandaise
Sauvignon Blanc's classical asparagus pairing; full body holds against the rich hollandaise.
  • Goat cheese with truffle honey
The wine's citrus and elderflower notes flatter goat cheese while the lees-driven texture matches the cheese's richness.

History

Peter Dipoli founded the estate in 1987 after his Laimburg training and replanted a 1.2-hectare parcel in Penon (Cortaccia) to Sauvignon Blanc. The first Voglar vintage in 1990 demonstrated that Alto Adige could produce internationally credible Sauvignon Blanc; the wine remains the cellar's calling card and one of just three wines Peter Dipoli makes.

  1. 1987 — Peter Dipoli founds the estate
  2. 1990 — First Voglar Sauvignon Blanc vintage launches the international Alto Adige Sauvignon Blanc category

Frequently asked about Voglar Sauvignon Blanc

What does Voglar Sauvignon taste like?

Grapefruit, elderflower, fresh herbs and smoky mineral on the nose; citrus, lees-driven texture, saline minerality and a long flinty finish on the palate. Full-bodied, dry, with high acidity.

When should I drink Voglar?

Drink between 5 and 20 years from vintage. The oak-aged structure makes Voglar unusually age-worthy for Sauvignon Blanc; cellared bottles develop honey, hazelnut and pronounced saline minerality.

Why is Voglar historically important?

First vintage 1990; Peter Dipoli's 1.2-hectare Penon parcel in Cortaccia is one of the earlier high-altitude Sauvignon Blanc plantings in Alto Adige.

Where is the Voglar vineyard?

In Penon, a hamlet of Cortaccia in the southern Bassa Atesina. Peter Dipoli replanted the 1.2-hectare parcel to Sauvignon Blanc in the late 1980s.
