In the glass
Aroma: lychee, rose petal, tropical fruit, honey
Palate: candied citrus, exotic fruit, spice, saline minerality
The Cantina Tramin selection Gewurztraminer from Soell and Schoenleiten vineyards above Tramin. Gambero Rosso Tre Bicchieri awards since the 1999 vintage, dry-styled, full-bodied with classic rose-and-lychee aromatics on a saline porphyry-driven palate.
What it pairs with
-
Schluetzkrapfen with spinach and ricotta
The Tyrolean ravioli's brown-butter finish meets the wine's full-bodied spice and stone-fruit weight. -
Asian curry with coconut and ginger
The wine's lychee and ginger notes echo aromatic spices while saline acidity cuts coconut richness. -
Aged Munster cheese
Gewurztraminer's classic Alsace pairing extends to South Tyrol; the wine's residual sweetness offsets the cheese's funky ammonia. -
Foie gras terrine
Tropical fruit and rose match the liver's richness; the wine's full body holds against the fat.
History
Cantina Tramin launched Nussbaumer in the early 1990s under winemaker Willi Stuerz, sourcing from the south-facing Nussbaumer farmstead and adjacent Soell-Schoenleiten vineyards above Tramin village (the historical homeland of Gewurztraminer). Since the 1999 vintage the wine has won Gambero Rosso Tre Bicchieri every year, the longest unbroken run for any Italian Gewurztraminer.
- 1992 — Willi Stuerz appointed cellar master and refocuses Nussbaumer as a single-selection Gewurztraminer
- 1999 — First of consecutive Gambero Rosso Tre Bicchieri awards
- 2018 — Tramin opens contemporary winery extension as Nussbaumer reaches 15 consecutive Tre Bicchieri

Frequently asked about Nussbaumer Gewurztraminer
What does Nussbaumer Gewurztraminer taste like?
Lychee, rose petal, tropical fruit and honey on the nose, with candied citrus, exotic fruit, spice and saline minerality on the palate. Full-bodied, medium-acid, with a long aromatic finish characteristic of dry Tramin Gewurztraminer.
When should I drink Nussbaumer?
Drink within 2 to 12 years of vintage. Young vintages show vibrant rose and lychee; cellared bottles develop honey, beeswax and saffron complexity. Serve at 10-12C in a wide tulip glass.
What food pairs with Nussbaumer Gewurztraminer?
Aromatic Asian dishes (Thai curry, ginger pork) are canonical. Aged Munster cheese, foie gras, and the South Tyrolean Schluetzkrapfen ravioli are the regional matches.
Where is Nussbaumer made?
Vineyards above Tramin (Soell, Schoenleiten and Nussbaumerhof farmstead) in southern Alto Adige, at 350-550 metres on porphyry-limestone soils. Tramin gave Gewurztraminer its name.
