Aroma: white peach, almond blossom, volcanic basalt mineral, fennel, lemon zest, flint

Palate: almond, saline mineral, lemon zest, fennel, white peach, chalky texture

La Frosca from the Gini family's oldest Garganega vines on the highest basalt-volcanic slopes of Monteforte d'Alpone; the chalky mineral texture, fennel herb and white-peach fruit represent the Classico zone's basalt terroir in its purest expression.

What it pairs with

  • Baccala alla vicentina (dried salt cod in milk)
The wine's saline mineral character and high acidity cut through the fat of Venetian salt cod.
  • Grilled scallops with lemon butter
Sweet scallop and citrus butter find the perfect counterpoint in almond-mineral Soave.

History

The Gini family has farmed the basalt hillsides of Monteforte d'Alpone since the 17th century, and La Frosca was established as the single-vineyard expression from their highest and oldest Garganega vines. It is one of the Classico zone's most consistent and mineral-driven Soave bottlings.

  1. 1600 — Gini family establishes vineyard presence in Monteforte d'Alpone
  2. 1980 — First La Frosca single-vineyard Soave Classico release
