In the glass
Aroma: citrus peel, white peach, boxwood, white flowers
Palate: yellow apple, lemon zest, saline lift, creamy texture
An atypical Pic Saint-Loup white built around Sauvignon Blanc and Gris with Chardonnay and Petit Manseng. Saline, citrus-driven, with a subtle creamy mid-palate from lees stirring.
What it pairs with
-
Oysters on the half-shell
Saline lift and citrus acidity are the textbook oyster match. -
Grilled white fish with fennel
White peach and herbal lift complement fennel; the wine's acidity handles char. -
Fresh goat cheese with herbs
Sauvignon-led citrus and creamy mid-palate match fresh chèvre's tang.
History
Pic Saint-Loup is approved only for reds and rosés, so Hortus's whites fall under the broader Languedoc appellation. Jean Orliac planted Sauvignon Blanc and Gris in the cooler northern parcels to make a white that captures the altitude and limestone of Hortus.
