Mazzano is Masi's most powerful and concentrated single-vineyard Amarone, from the high-altitude Mazzano hill in the S. Ambrogio zone. More opulent and riper than Campolongo, with a chocolatey, rich palate and remarkable ageing potential.
What it pairs with
-
Slow-roasted duck with plum sauce
The wine's plum-chocolate opulence aligns with the rich, fruity sauce of roast duck. -
Brasato with Amarone
The classic Veronese braised beef dish ideally uses Amarone in the braise, creating a flavour mirror. -
Aged Montasio Stravecchio
The sharp, crystalline, long-aged Friulian cheese provides salt and umami contrast.
History
Mazzano was released alongside Campolongo di Torbe as Masi's pair of single-vineyard Amarone expressions. The Mazzano vineyard, at higher elevation and on deeper volcanic soils in S. Ambrogio di Valpolicella, consistently produces Masi's richest, most concentrated wine and is considered one of the top single-vineyard Amarone bottlings in the Classico zone.
- 1964 — First Mazzano single-vineyard Amarone bottling released
- 1988 — Mazzano established as Masi's premium single-vineyard flagship
