Loibenberg Riesling Smaragd from the Mautern-based Hutter estate: apricot blossom and lime with chalk-mineral character from south-bank terroir.

What it pairs with

  • Baked trout with herbs
Mineral and floral notes complement herb-baked freshwater fish.
  • Mild blue cheese
Mineral acidity and stone fruit can bridge a mild, creamy blue.
  • Lemon tart
Citrus and stone mineral complement the tart's citrus filling.

History

The Hutter family at Mautern on the south bank of the Danube has worked the Loibenberg terraces since at least 1748. The south-bank position gives the estate's wines slightly more warmth than north-bank counterparts, producing a rounder Riesling style.

  1. 1985 — First Hutter Loibenberg Riesling Smaragd bottled as a single-site cuvée
