Palate: creamy texture, elegant acidity, muscular body, lavender lift

Cantina Kurtatsch's single-vineyard Gewurztraminer Riserva from the warm Brenntal site northwest of Kurtatsch. The red loamy soils give multifaceted aromatics (lychee, roses, mango, caramelised orange peel, lavender) on a creamy-textured, muscular palate. Up to 20 years cellaring capability.

What it pairs with

  • Aged Gorgonzola with honey
Producer notes the wine reaches full complexity with age; the Gewurztraminer-blue cheese pairing is canonical with this style.
  • Thai green curry
The wine's rose and mango aromatics meet aromatic spice; full body supports coconut richness.
  • Foie gras with quince
Caramelised orange peel echoes the quince while the wine's body holds against the liver.

History

Cantina Kurtatsch developed the Brenntal Gewurztraminer Riserva alongside the cellar's Merlot Riserva in the mid-1990s, exploiting the warm Brenntal slope's combination of intense sun and evening fall winds. The wine has been awarded Gambero Rosso Tre Bicchieri repeatedly (2021 vintage) and four consecutive Corona awards from Vinibuoni d'Italia.

  1. 1995 — First Brenntal Gewurztraminer Riserva vintage
  2. 2024 — Brenntal Gewurztraminer Riserva 2022 awarded fourth consecutive Corona from Vinibuoni d'Italia
