In the glass
Aroma: dried apricot, golden raisin, almond, vanilla
Palate: dried stone fruit, caramel, roasted almond, gentle oxidative
De Bartoli's Marsala Superiore Riserva Oro is an approachable 5-year expression: lighter oxidative weight than the 10-year Riserva but with the estate's characteristic Grillo purity and a golden-almond character that bridges the aperitivo and dessert register.
What it pairs with
-
Torrone di mandorle siciliano (Sicilian almond nougat)
Golden-almond notes in the wine pair perfectly with Sicily's beloved almond nougat. -
Fruit and nut pastries
The wine's warming sweetness and dried-fruit notes are a natural companion for nut-based pastries. -
Fresh strawberries with ricotta cream
The wine's golden sweetness and gentle acidity elevate the combination of fresh fruit and creamy ricotta.
History
The Marsala Superiore Riserva Oro is De Bartoli's 5-year version of the Marsala DOC range, providing an accessible introduction to the Samperi style at a shorter ageing period than the 10-year expression. Introduced in the early 1980s to fill a mid-tier position, it uses the same Grillo from the Samperi estate but with a shorter barrel tenure.
