In the glass
Aroma: wild blackberry, garrigue, iron ore, dried violet, exotic spice
Palate: complex layered dark fruit, mineral iron, dried herbs, peppery depth, long saline finish
Jerome Bressy's Gourt de Mautens declassified from Rasteau AOC to IGP Vaucluse to maintain multi-variety blends prohibited under the stricter AOC rules; the wine is widely regarded as one of the Southern Rhone's most distinctive and complex reds.
What it pairs with
-
Roasted leg of lamb with tapenade crust
The wine's complexity and mineral depth match the concentrated olive-herb crust. -
Truffle risotto
Iron and dried herb complexity are a natural match for white truffle.
History
Jerome Bressy farms biodynamically and uses ancient varieties including Counoise and Cinsault in large proportions. The decision to declassify from Rasteau AOC to IGP was deliberate, allowing more varietal freedom. The wine is sought after by natural wine collectors worldwide.
