Aroma: overripe black cherry, raisined fig, herbs de Provence, coffee, dark chocolate

Palate: warm plum, molasses, dark spice, massive concentration, endless finish

Made only in exceptional years from the oldest Grenache vines at Pegau; an extreme, deeply concentrated Chateauneuf of extraordinary power and longevity.

What it pairs with

  • Braised short rib with truffle
The wine's massive concentration and warmth demands equally rich food.
  • Aged Manchego
Firm tannins and concentration handle the intensity of hard aged cheese.

History

Da Capo (Italian for 'from the beginning') is Pegau's exceptional-vintage-only prestige cuvee from the oldest Grenache vines. ABV regularly exceeds 15.5%, making it one of the most powerful wines in France. Production is tiny and the wine is highly sought after by collectors.

  1. 2000 — First vintage of Cuvee da Capo produced at Domaine du Pegau
  2. 2003 — Second release; the 2003 heat vintage produces a legendary da Capo
