What it pairs with

  • Roast leg of lamb with garlic
The most classic Northern Rhone pairing: mineral Syrah and roast lamb.
  • Hare a la Royale
Rich gamey hare stew needs a wine of equal intensity and mineral complexity.
  • Grilled cote de boeuf with bone marrow
The wine's structure and dark fruit match the richness of aged beef and marrow.

History

Named for the Saint-Christophe chapel on the Hermitage hill, La Chapelle has been produced since the Jaboulet house was founded in 1834. The 1961 vintage remains the most-cited historic Jaboulet release.

  1. 1834 — Paul Jaboulet Aine founds the house; La Chapelle is the founding cuvee
  2. 1961 — La Chapelle 1961 released; one of the house's signature historic vintages
