What it pairs with

  • Roe deer or venison
The producer specifies game pairings: roe deer, chamois and venison.
  • Roasted meats
Lagrein DOC's medium tannins handle roast pork, veal and lamb without overpowering.
  • Entrecote with herb butter
Producer-suggested premium cut pairing; the wine's dark-fruit and spice meet beef fat directly.
  • Grilled sausages
Bolzano sausages with rye bread are the traditional everyday match.

History

Muri-Gries has produced Lagrein in central Bolzano since the Benedictines arrived in 1845. The standard DOC bottling represents the cellar's heritage cuvee, raised in a mix of stainless steel and large oak to preserve fresh fruit while gaining gentle structure.

  1. 1845 — Benedictine monks of Muri (Switzerland) took over the Gries monastery, continuing the Lagrein viticultural tradition
