Aroma: wild blackberry, grilled meat, garrigue, dark chocolate, spiced plum

Palate: inky fruit, black olive, tobacco, velvety tannins, long mineral finish

The prestige Chateauneuf from La Mordoree; dark, rich, and muscular with Mourvedre backbone and a silky tannic finish. Consistently one of the appellation's finest.

What it pairs with

  • Grilled duck breast with fig compote
Dark fruit and Mourvedre depth handle duck's richness and the fig's sweetness.
  • Roasted leg of lamb with thyme
Classic Grenache-lamb pairing; herb notes echo the Provencal seasoning.
  • Slow-cooked wild boar with olives
Inky fruit and tobacco notes complement gamey slow-cooked boar.

History

La Mordoree was founded in the 1980s in Tavel and expanded into Chateauneuf-du-Pape. The Reine des Bois ('Queen of the Woods') is the estate's flagship Chateauneuf, blending old Grenache with Mourvedre for depth and ageing potential.

  1. 1995 — Reine des Bois first produced as a distinct Chateauneuf cuvee
  2. 2010 — La Mordoree's Chateauneuf recognised among the appellation's top estates
