Aroma: black cherry, spring flowers, pen ink, graphite, wet stone

Palate: red cherry, perfumed red fruit, mineral, limestone terroir

Second wine of Troplong Mondot, Merlot-dominant with emphasis on freshness and early drinkability. A juicy, earthy black cherry and spring flower profile with wet-stone limestone terroir character; approachable and unpretentious.

What it pairs with

  • Grilled sausages with mustard
Juicy Merlot fruit and fresh acidity cut through the fat and spice of grilled charcuterie.
  • Pasta with bolognese
Medium-body and red-fruit character align with tomato-based meat sauce; light mineral finish lifts the dish.
  • Hamburger with aged cheddar
Polished tannins integrate with beef patty richness; the wine's fruit freshness cuts through the cheese.

History

Mondot was created in 1985 as the second wine of Chateau Troplong Mondot. Drawing on younger and less concentrated parcel selections from the same limestone plateau vineyard, it offers everyday access to the estate's distinctive terroir character. The wine has evolved with the estate's broader renovation from 2017-2020, adopting a fresher, foudre-aged style in recent years.
