In the glass
Aroma: black cherry, wild herbs, dried lavender, chalk
Palate: dark cherry, cedar, iron mineral, dried rose
Feudo di Mezzo is the most aromatic and perfumed of the Terre Nere lineup: complex, multi-layered, with chalky depth and remarkable persistence.
What it pairs with
-
Duck breast with cherry reduction
The wine's dark-cherry intensity and cedar notes pair classically with duck. -
Venison ragu with pappardelle
Firm tannins and herb savouriness handle the gamey richness of venison. -
Black truffle tagliolini
Chalky mineral depth and dried-rose aromatics resonate with black truffle.
History
Feudo di Mezzo is the highest-elevation Terre Nere contrada at around 950 metres on the north slope, added to the portfolio in 2007. The cooler temperatures and older vines produce the estate's most aromatic and complex expression, often considered a rival to Guardiola for top-billing.
- 2007 — Feudo di Mezzo added to the contrada range as the fourth single-vineyard cuvee
