The Livio Felluga flagship Friulian white from the Rosazzo amphitheatre, a three-variety blend (Friulano, Pinot Bianco, Sauvignon) with partial barrique ageing. First vintage 1981; Italy's reference age-worthy white wine and the flagship of the broader Friulian white-wine movement.

What it pairs with

  • Risotto al tartufo bianco
Almond cream and honey aromatics handle the white truffle's musky depth; full body holds the Carnaroli starch.
  • Lobster Thermidor
Almond cream pairs with the gratin's bechamel; saline minerality lifts the shellfish sweetness.
  • Aged Parmigiano Reggiano 36 months
Crystalline cheese salt mirrors the saline minerality; almond aromatics echo the rind's umami.
  • Roast guinea fowl with porcini
Honey and white pepper aromatics pair with the bird's nutty fat; high acidity scrubs the chicken fat.

History

Livio Felluga's flagship Friulian white, with first vintage 1981. The wine was named Terre Alte (high lands) for the Rosazzo amphitheatre's elevated south-facing slopes. Promoted from DOC Colli Orientali del Friuli to the newly created DOCG Rosazzo in 2011, recognising the Rosazzo amphitheatre as Italy's first DOCG dedicated to a dry white field blend.

  1. 1981 — First Terre Alte vintage as the estate's flagship white
  2. 2011 — DOCG Rosazzo created; Terre Alte promoted from DOC Colli Orientali del Friuli

Frequently asked about Livio Felluga Terre Alte

What does Terre Alte taste like?

Yellow apple, white peach, almond blossom, honey and white pepper on the nose; yellow stone fruit, almond cream, lemon pith and saline minerality on the palate. Full-bodied with high acidity and a long finish from 12 months on lees plus 12 months in bottle.

What is DOCG Rosazzo?

DOCG Rosazzo, created in 2011, is the small DOCG in the Colli Orientali del Friuli appellation dedicated to dry-white field blends from the Rosazzo amphitheatre. Terre Alte is the reference bottling that prompted the DOCG's elevation.

When should I drink Terre Alte?

Drink between 3 and 20 years from vintage. The wine cellars exceptionally well for an Italian dry white; almond cream and honey aromatics deepen into nutty patisserie from year 5 onwards.
