In the glass
Aroma: red cherry, rose, herbs, light volcanic mineral
Palate: tart cherry, red plum, saline, medium tannin
The Cottanera Etna Rosso is the estate's primary north-slope red: approachable and fruit-forward, with Nerello's cherry character and Etna's herbaceous mineral finish.
What it pairs with
-
Pasta al ragu di maiale
The wine's cherry fruit and herb notes match the sweet pork ragu. -
Grilled chicken thighs with lemon and rosemary
Light-medium body and herbal acidity pair naturally with the herb-roasted poultry. -
Caponata
The wine's brightness and clean acidity harmonise with the sweet-and-sour aubergine.
History
Cottanera was founded in 1994 by the Cambria brothers on Etna's north slope. The Contrada Diciassettesalme Etna Rosso reflects the estate's prime vineyard on the Alcantara Valley rim, and is the benchmark entry for the Cottanera native-grape range.
- 1994 — Cottanera founded in Castiglione di Sicilia
- 2010 — Contrada Diciassettesalme bottling established as the flagship Etna Rosso
