In the glass
Aroma: toast, vanilla, red berry, black cherry, light oak spice
Palate: juicy, open textured, substance, oak-kissed fruit, tender fused tannins, fresh finish
Bauduc's premium red from a single Bordeaux Superieur block: 75% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Sauvignon aged in small barrels for added structure. Anne Krebiehl MW describes it as juicy, plush, and beautifully open with oak-kissed fruit.
What it pairs with
-
Roast pork loin with apple sauce
Medium body and ripe cherry fruit complement mild pork; the gentle oak spice adds savour. -
Steak frites
Classic Bordeaux-and-steak pairing at an accessible price; Cabernet Sauvignon structure holds up to the beef. -
Duck rillettes with toasted sourdough
Plush Merlot fruit and soft tannins work perfectly with rich duck fat; vanilla oak bridges the toast.
History
Les Trois Hectares Rouge was introduced alongside the white from the same block with the Quinney family's first vintages at Bauduc in 2000. The Bordeaux Superieur classification (higher minimum ageing requirements than basic Bordeaux AOC) reflects the wine's greater ambition and structure. It has become the estate's best-known red.
- 2000 — First vintage of Les Trois Hectares Rouge by the Quinney family
- 2016 — Wine praised by Decanter for smoked and toasted fruit with sinewy balance
