Sabiona Eisacktaler late tasting ★ 4.6

Sabiona is the Eisacktaler White Wine Festival held in the Capuchin Garden of Klausen on a Friday evening in early June, 5pm to midnight. Eisacktal producers pour by grape variety, making it the single best Eisacktaler white-wine traverse of the year.

The list: Late-evening Eisacktal white-wine tasting from 5pm to midnight; Sylvaner, Kerner, Riesling, Gruener Veltliner organised by variety; producers from Neustift to southern Eisacktal

Tip: The 2026 edition is Friday 5 June. EUR 25 includes the Klausen-coat-of-arms tasting glass and unlimited tastings.

Kalterer Weintage late tasting ★ 4.6

Kalterer Weintage opens the Caldaro village main square for two evenings of late tasting in early September, from 6pm. Cantina Kaltern, Manincor, Lieselehof and the smaller private producers pour the current-vintage Schiava, Pinot Bianco, Sauvignon and Lagrein. The 2026 edition is 3-4 September.

The list: Two evenings of Caldaro producers; Schiava-Kalterersee verticals, Manincor biodynamic range, Cantina Kaltern Riserva tier; about 150 wines poured

Tip: Schiava from Kalterersee is the headline pour. Pair with a swim in the lake the same afternoon and dinner at Schwarzer Adler before the late tasting.

City.Vinothek Cantina Merano Brut Riserva 36 sparkling room ★ 4.6

City.Vinothek of Cantina Merano in the Merano arcades pours the cooperative's Brut Riserva 36 traditional-method sparkling and the wider sparkling range. The cellar offers an overview of South Tyrolean sparkling alongside the in-house distillery.

The list: Brut Riserva 36 traditional-method sparkling (36 months on lees) is the headline pour; Festival Pinot Bianco and the wider Cantina Merano sparkling range

Tip: Brut Riserva 36 is named for the 36 months on the lees. The Cantina Merano cellar in Marlengo (10 minutes' drive uphill) hosts a 35-wine tasting roundtable.

Kettmeir spumante tasting room ★ 4.4

Kettmeir is the South Tyrolean sparkling-house pioneer, having brought the Charmat method to Alto Adige in 1965. The Caldaro cellar pours the full Kettmeir sparkling range including the Brut, Brut Riserva and the Athesis Rose. Bookable tastings in the cellar's stube and outdoor terrace.

The list: Talento Alto Adige and Trento DOC traditional-method sparkling; Kettmeir Brut, Brut Riserva, and Athesis Cuvee Rose; Kettmeir is part of the Santa Margherita Wine Group

Tip: Kettmeir Athesis Rose Cuvee is the cellar's signature sparkling rose, a Pinot Nero-led blend. Combine the visit with a stop at Cantina Kaltern (5 minutes away).

Arunda Vivaldi mountain sparkling cellar ★ 4.6

Arunda is the Vivaldi family's high-altitude sparkling cellar at Meltina (Moelten) on the Tschoegglberg plateau, at 1,200 m altitude per the cellar's own site. Founded 1979, the cellar produces traditional-method sparkling exclusively. The cool altitude gives a high-acidity, long-ageing sparkling profile.

The list: Talento Alto Adige traditional-method sparkling at 1,200 m altitude; Cuvee Blanc de Blancs, Brut Rose, Vivaldi Extra Brut

Tip: Arunda sits at 1,200 m altitude per the cellar's own documentation. Tastings include the Vivaldi Extra Brut and the rare Marianna Vintage Cuvee. Book at least a week ahead.

Loewengrube ★ 4.7

Loewengrube is Bolzano's oldest restaurant and one of South Tyrol's most respected wine destinations, with a 1543 inn above the medieval cellar (circa 1280). Sommelier service from behind the wine bar in the cellar; Alpine-global cooking from chefs Michael Meister and Philipp Mantinger.

The list: Over 1,000 wines on the list, including a deep South Tyrolean selection (Lagrein, Schiava, Gewurztraminer, Pinot Bianco) and verticals of the major Alto Adige cooperatives; medieval cellar (circa 1280 AD) below the dining room

Tip: Ask to be seated in the medieval cellar; the wine bar at the back pours by-the-glass flights from the deeper cellar bottles. Reserve a Saturday-evening sommelier-paired tasting menu.
